Hi, I’m Nick Northrup. I’m a fitness trainer at The Gym MPLS specializing in CrossFit, BodyBuilding, and recently dabbling in StrongMan.  Fitness has been a constant in my life since I was 22 years old. It started when a buddy brought me into the gym to add a little muscle and “look good”. Over time, it transformed into a passion for health, fitness, and pushing yourself every day.

I want to train with anyone who is ready for a change, push themselves, show consistency, and have patience with the process.  Sometimes the workout looks awesome, other times it doesn’t. It’s knowing that, through the good and bad, you pushed yourself and hopefully you came out the other side stronger, mentally, and physically. The journey will be challenging and rewarding. I want to teach you the tools to be a better and healthier you. Let’s get stronger together!

I’m Michael Phillips, a personal trainer here at The Gym MPLS! I’ve specialized in training in strength, mobility, and overall fitness since 2012. Whether you’re a high school athlete looking to increase speed and power development for sport, or a senior looking to move better as you age, I’d love the opportunity to help!

I’m 36 years old and have lived in MN my whole live. I’ve traveled and have seen some amazing places, but I always find my way home to MN. I love snowboarding, wakeboarding, swimming, gymnastics, running, hiking, weightlifting, Crossfit, anything that keeps me active!

What I love about the Gym MPLS is that it’s a collective of like minded people who want to help individuals become better. It’s a judgment free place to learn the skills to achieve that. If I or we can help, we will!

Hey! I’m Emily Zabeli, I’m a personal trainer at The Gym MPLS with Apex Personal Training! I work with people on functional fitness, strength training, endurance, and ultra running. I enjoy working with those that want to try new things and push themselves!

I like to spend a lot of time outside, hiking and training for ultra runs! I also love to sample the coffee shop scene for the best Americano, and enjoy a good documentary.

I’m Zach Martin, a Functional Strength Trainer at The Gym MPLS. I focus on Mobility, Calisthenics, Corrective Exercise, and overall Physical Conditioning. I love to work with people of any fitness level; anyone who wants to increase their mobility, feel better, and is motivated to make a change.

I love to golf, go to sporting events, and work out! I like that there are endless possibilities to fitness. I enjoy the challenge of giving people a customized workout that is designed for their current fitness levels. It’s great that you can be very creative with what you want to achieve.

I look forward to meeting people where they are at and working with people who want to make a positive change in their health and fitness!

Sam Topping

Growing up in Madison, Wisconsin, I played sports all year round. Baseball was number one, followed by basketball and football. My love for sports lead me to begin lifting weights when I was 12 years old, and I haven’t stopped since.

My passion for athletics and strength training led me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology at the University of Minnesota. During Senior year, I interned with the Minnesota Gopher Football team as a strength and condition assistant. Upon graduation, I worked for a private personal training studio. Nine months later I went off on my own and founded Top Training LLC in the summer of 2013. Since then, I have worked with hundreds of clients – both youth athletes and adults.

Time-efficient, evidence-based workouts combined with proper rest, nutrition guidance, and recovery allow my clients to see results without spending hours in the gym every week. Training should not be this daunting task that takes up all of your free time. My philosophy is based around simple, time-efficient workouts that require a high level of effort. The research is pretty
clear – strength training should be a priority for everyone, no matter the age.

My focus now is helping youth baseball players improve their performance through strength and conditioning along with nutrition. I also offer one-on-one training and nutrition coaching for adults.

Outside of THE GYM MPLS, I enjoy eating out and trying new restaurants, traveling, golfing, bike riding, and going to games at Target Field.

Joel Eshelman

Joel Eshelman has been helping change lives through fitness for over a decade. Upon graduation, he has furthered his knowledge earning multiple certifications. Through his unique background, he brings a simple no-nonsense approach to his training style. His training philosophy is to keep things simple, effective and safe for his clients whether they are trying to lose weight or they are training for their upcoming season. Joel believes that applied knowledge through action and education is everything. This is why he continues to further his own education whenever possible, so he can deliver what he believes is the best for those who trust him in their journey.

No two clients are the same not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. This is why Joel has believed that it’s not just about a physical result, it’s about who you become throughout the journey as well. Joel’s passion for helping people shines through in everything he does in sessions and in business. He has helped thousands of people throughout his career and is always looking at how he can help even more.

Outside of the gym, Joel loves spending time with his new family and enjoys playing basketball, working on his own fitness goals, attending sporting events, trying the newest restaurant in town, concerts traveling and especially traveling to play golf. His goal is to play the top one hundred golf courses in the United States and then the world. Joel is also a serial entrepreneur and is always working on his next business venture.
