If you have spent all year diligently attending the gym, you may think summer is the time to take a break and enjoy the sun. The problem with that? The longer you go without your regular routine, the harder it is to get back into the swing of things. Before you know it, you will have an excuse for every season, and all your hard work will have been for nothing.

Workout Efficiency

If you are considering ditching the gym just because it is summer, it’s a good indication you are not working out efficiently in the first place. There are 12 wakeful hours in the average person’s day, which is plenty of time for both workouts and relaxation. An improved schedule will allow you to attend the gym for 30 to 60 minutes per session, leaving the rest of the day free to attend barbeques and other summer events.

Staying Hydrated

Even if the temperature in the gym is kept at comfortable levels, you still have to deal with the rest of the day before and after your workout. If you are avoiding the gym because of feeling more tired than usual, it could mean you are not maintaining optimal hydration levels. For summer training, elevate your water intake to account for the heat and humidity.

At-Home Exercise

Remember that the sun will also impact any exercise you do outside the gym, such as jogging or running. Try to reserve these activities for the morning or evening, when it isn’t as hot outside. As long as you are working out efficiently, it also wouldn’t hurt to cut out some of your home exercises altogether.
